Thrift Store Spring Door

Easy Thrift Store Spring Door Decor:

How to:

  • Spray paint a Goodwill door hanger
  • Add artificial flowers
  • Personalize

How easy is that, right?  I had these hydrangeas from an old wreath that I had.  I cut them into smaller pieces, and after stuffing the bucket hanger with filler paper, I hot glued them to the paper to hold them in place.

I bought the "Happy Easter" sign from Marshall's for about $8!
You can always use grapevine wreaths from Goodwill.  But, I usually see door hangers.  They just need to be freshened up, like I did here, with white paint.

Simple and Thrifty Upcycle

You see these old octagon end tables all the time in consignment shops and Goodwill.  I have always passed them up, until I noticed that they have a lot of storage space!  So, I thought I would give it a facelift with a little paint and new hardware.

I will let you in on a little secret...for small furniture with a veneer finish, just use a spray paint with a primer!  There is no need to sand these pieces down, or waste time with primer.

I use Valspar Satin White spray paint with primer.  Next, I used sand paper to distress, and replaced the hardware.  Very simple upcyle, and a great table with plenty of storage!

Instagram Spring Scale

I have teamed up with 4 fabulous ladies over on Instagram, for a fun hashtag called #hoppinonthescale !  Scales are my latest obsession, and the rustier, the better!  Head to my Instagram page, if you would like to show us, the #BalancedBeauties, your Spring scale decor.

Target Dollar Spot Love

Who gets excited to check out the Target dollar spot?  I haunt the dollar spot!  This cute bunny was only $3!  They had a lot of other things there that I scooped up, but I think this was my favorite find.  Also, if you haven't checked out this month's Country Living magazine, it is amazefest!

I hate when I buy a magazine and it is the same pictures I have seen before.  This issue is all new stuff!  Plus, a Fixer Upper spread!  So, who doesn't love that?

This is an example of how to use artificial flowers and accessories to add a little Spring in your home!

Super Simple Art Table Upcycle

How perfect is this cable spool table turned into an art table for kids?

I have a lot of projects going on, and one of them is redecorating my boys' bedrooms.  My 9 year old loves to draw and make cards!  He is going to be such a good little husband!  For every holiday, he makes cards for us and his friends.  His most recent, was a valentine.  The card read "Will you be my valentine? Check yes or no!"  She said yes!  Haha He was so happy!

So, I spray painted a cable spool table with Valspar satin white, and a small flower pot fits perfectly in the middle for markers and crayons!

Spring Chair Upcycle

Do u have an old chair that could use a facelift?  I love this antique chair, but the seat was torn, so I turned it into a planter!  I could have just recovered the seat, but instead, I just removed the seat for a fun garden planter.

After removing the seat, you can spray paint it with outdoor spray paint.  Next, just add a netted hanging basket to sit in the opening of the chair.  Finally, add soil and flowers!  Super simple and it makes a unique planter for the porch or garden!

Spring Coffee Bar

The first sign of spring in the house is my coffee bar.  Even with warmer weather ahead, I still need my coffee!  Who's with me?  If you are not a coffee drinker, you could always have an Easter candy bar.  I don't know if that would be a good idea in this house, but if you can resist the temptation, it would be a great way to bring Spring home.  I think I will wait until the night before Easter to set up my candy bar.  The kids would be so excited when they show up for Easter dinner!

Easy Planter Upcyle

I am totally ready for Spring!  I love this time of year, when all the fresh colors come out in the stores.  Spring feels like a fresh start to me.  We all get excited about Christmas, and then it is over so quickly.  After Christmas, I am ready for warmer weather, porch sittin', pool time, and fun with family and friends outdoors!  This year, I am in love with turquoise, and I am seeing it everywhere!  Marshall's has these colorful colanders, and since it was so pretty, I wanted to use it to freshen up my she shed.  I added soil, vincas, and used jute to transform it into a cute planter.  Try it!  So simple, but so fresh!

Good Morning at the Funky Farmhouse

Good morning! It's Saturday at the funky farmhouse, and it is going to be in the 70's today!  Warmer days equal painting days!  I have so many projects to do, and I love when I can do them outside!  Today, I am looking for chairs to go with an old table.  First stop...online yard sales! Have you discovered these yet?  It sure beats waking up at the crack of dawn, and riding around town to local yard sales!  For this table, I want mismatched chairs.  So, on the online yard sale junkin' trail I go!  Have a happy Saturday!

But First, Coffee!

Mornings just wouldn't be the same without coffee around here.  I wake up at least an hour before everyone else to have coffee time.  It is the calm before the storm, a time to reflect, and relax before starting the day.  And everyone knows, don't talk to mama before coffee!

Funky Farmhouse February

I did not use red this year when I decorated for Valentine's Day.  So soon after Christmas, I wanted something different.  I am starting to add blues and greens to our living area.  Here is just a sneak peek of my February mantle!

Antique Tufted Chair

I am loving this vintage chair I picked up at a yard sale for $20! And it's comfy too.   I haven't added much color to my living room, so for now, this is my pop of color!

Thrift Store Wall Gallery

I mentioned in my "Thrift Shopping Tips" post that I always look for frames and mirrors at thrift shops.  I use Valspar satin white spray paint to give them the look I want.  When spray painting mirrors, use Goo Gone to get rid of excess paint on the mirror.  A wall gallery display is just one of the ways to repurpose those old thrift shop frames and mirrors!  They can be used anywhere in your home!

10 Thrift Shopping Tips

I never thought I would shop at Goodwill so much until I figured out a few tricks of the trade.  As a furniture painter, upcyler, and DIY lover, I actually find most of my projects at Goodwill.  But, there are a few things I have learned.  Check out my 6 Goodwill shopping tips that I go by to create a frugal farmhouse style for my home!

  1. When? Tuesday seems to be the best day to stop by Goodwill.  It gives them time to get out everything that was donated over the weekend.
  2. What? I look for certain items every time.  But, I head straight to the furniture as soon as I walk in, hoping to find a good piece to revamp!
  3. Why? About half of my home decor is thrifted items.  I always find different ways to use them, and mix the old with the new!
  4. Wood: solid wood furniture, frames, crates, shelving etc
  5. Glass, Ceramics, and Fabric: lamps, vintage ceramic serving pieces, vases, baskets, fabric, or table cloths that can be used for recovering.
  6. Holiday Items: I shop the holiday aisle all year.  I look for wreaths, planters, anything that I can upcyle for any time of year.
There are so many thing at Goodwill just waiting to be repurposed or upcycled.  It might be cheap, but with a little love, you can turn someone else's trash into your treasure!
